OPOP Releasing Friend News

Our OPOP team has begun the process of building a relationship with our releasing friend Shawnna. She is sharing letters, news, her hopes and dreams with us. It is with great joy we share news of our activities.

Shawnna is releasing from the Washington Women's Corrections Center in Gig Harbor in October.  As friends, we have shared over 15 letters and multiple emails. Three members are also taking steps to be able to visit her in person. She welcomes the opportunity to meet in person as she has had no visitors during her stay. She has shared prayer requests for Sundays and is excited that her son is graduating from Olympia High School! Our releasing friend Michael encouraged her to connect with us. The love and joy is moving among us and is known.

We will be preparing ways for our congregation to focus our OPOP support in the tasks ahead, such as supports to secure housing, stability, and employment. Most importantly, we will be friends. Let us join together in this blessed journey with love.

Matthew 25: 36, 39–40 Jesus said, "I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me."  When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you? "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters, you did for me.’"
