Anti-Racist Film Club

Our February selection for ARFC this month is the documentary Stamped From The Beginning (2024).

Stamped From The Beginning (2023) is a documentary based on the best-selling book by Ibram X Kendi. Through historic iconography, modern images, and animated sequences, this film takes a startling look at the origins of racist thought throughout American history. We do NOT live in a “post-racial” society and this documentary reveals how modern anti-Black messaging is still deeply entrenched in the same ideologies of the past. Through interviews with experts, artists, and historians, the movie explores where myths about Black people began and how they’ve evolved to persist into our modern era.

This film is rated R for language and graphic, historical images. We also issue a content warning for discussions of and footage that evokes sexual assault. Watch a full trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMYLFQbyIu4&ab_channel=Netflix.

We'll be showing the movie upstairs at First Olympia UMC in Room 222 this Sunday, 2/9 @12:30pm. There will be a light lunch provided before/during the screening. Our discussion will be held the next day on Monday, 2/10 @7pm over Zoom.

I promise the screening WILL be over before the Super Bowl begins.

If you're interested in either of these events, please RSVP here:
