Two Advent Study Opportunities

On Tuesdays at 10am starting December 3rd, join Pastor Alexa at church to study "Names of the Messiah." A Description of the Class:

In Isaiah 9:6, a divine utterance is given to us using four royal titles—Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. Names for the Messiah ponders each title and how the people understood it then, how Jesus did or did not fulfill the title, and how Christians interpret Jesus as representative of that title. Christians have claimed from the beginning that Jesus was the Messiah foretold in the Old Testament. In this study, best-selling author Walter Brueggemann tackles the questions: "What were these expectations?" and "Did Jesus fulfill them?"

Books are $7. Email Pastor Alexa at pastoralexa@fumcoly.org if you're planning to join, and if you need a book! Books will be available for pickup on November 24th.

And, on Wednesday nights, starting November 20th, at Affinity Nights/ADVENTures, you can join Pastor Alexa for a study on the town of Bethlehem, particularly if you're not up for the ADVENTures activities for whatever reason. This four week study explores the significance, Biblical history, and legacy of Jesus’ birthplace: Bethlehem. It also invites us to explore what this might say about Jesus, and what his birth, life, and death might be trying to say to us. Dive a bit deeper into the Christmas story!

There is no book necessary for this class.
