Anti-Racist Film Club - December 2023

After Light Lunch, stay for the in-person screening of our next selection for Anti-Racist Film Club. In the holiday spirit, we'll be watching the 2013 musical adaptation of Black Nativity together. The screening starts at 12:30pm and there will be popcorn!

Black Nativity is a movie musical that tells the story of a young man from Baltimore who spends Christmas with his estranged grandparents in Harlem. There, he grapples with family dynamics, racial profiling, religious tensions, and a dark family mystery that drove his mother away all those years ago. Everything comes to a head on Christmas Eve when the truth is reluctantly dragged into the light. Click here to watch a full trailer.

This is a mostly family-friendly film with some light offensive and/or suggestive language, a simulated birth sequence (as part of an interpretive dance), and a tense scene where a child points a gun at another character. Overall, it's a heartwarming film about family and personal-growth.

Our December discussion will be over Zoom on Thursday, 12/7 @7pm (the Zoom link will be sent out morning of.) If you're planning to attend, please fill out this RSVP form to let us know you're coming: https://fumcoly.breezechms.com/form/ade98652265897736246

Also! Feel free to check out the newest episode of the ARFC podcast... Pastor Heather and I (Lauren) had a wonderful discussion about this film. Click here to listen to the episode.
