Mission Work Opportunity at Camp Indianola
There is an upcoming work party at Camp Indianola (one of our UMC camps located across the sound from Everett Washington). We will work on the Madrona building and be tasked with stripping adhesive from the concrete floor, building bunk beds, mudding and sanding drywall, outside/yard clean up and more as we are able.
Work trip dates are November 1-4, 2023. (We know this is a quick turn around, we only recently learned of the possibility for a work party to help and want to get as much done as we can before the holidays). We plan to work 6-8 hours a day and have plenty of time for rest, fellowship and worship. We will stay at camp Indianola. There are standard twin and full size camp beds. You will need to bring your own linens/sleeping bag + towel. There are 4 RV spots on site that are available to team members.
Mission work with the UMC is generally open and accessible to folks of all ages (14+) and experience levels (novice to professional). With UMCOR and other agencies, we utilize professionals (paid and volunteer) to run a particular job and instruct other team members. We do lots of on-the-job training and are happy to have volunteers who have never slung a hammer, mudded drywall, done roofing, or changed an outlet box be part of our teams. You are responsible for travel costs to and from the work site (including the Ferry ride if you cross the sound). We ask each team member to contribute a minimum of $50 for food costs. We invite participants to contribute an additional $100 as they are able to help with cost of materials while we are onsite. Contributions should be paid to Camp Indianola with “work party” in the memo.
Rev. Debbie Sperry from Wenatchee FUMC is coordinating our team. Applications and questions should be sent to her at revdebbie@firstumchurch.org or 425-243-3784 (call or text). To apply, please fill out the attached form. Please include skills and food restrictions, worship leading, or other duties. Click to fill out the application form.
