Blessing of the Animals
About 800 years ago St. Francis of Assisi experienced a moment of grace while walking outside. He questioned his life choices, and wondered if he should have chosen a more traditional life rather than the life of a monk. He noticed birds on his path and began to preach to them about the glories of God. His doubt dissipated and his ministry to all of God’s creation began. St. Francis was known to put out fine wine and honey for bees to overwinter, to move worms from the path lest they be stepped on, and to call all creatures his brothers and sisters.
In celebration of St. Francis and all of God’s creation, we remember him through a blessing of the animals on his feast day, Oct 4. This is an opportunity for us to thank God for the animals in our lives and recognize our connection to all of God’s creation.
At 5:30 on Oct 4, under the front portico of the church, Pastor Alexa and Pastor Heather will offer a blessing of the animals. We will have a short time in prayer and then an opportunity for each pet and person to receive a special blessing. Hot cider and tea will be available for the humans, water and treats for the animals! All animals are welcome - dogs, cats, goats, birds and more! We hope to see you, and your pets, there!
