Sunday Worship In-person and Streamed Online at 10am

Anti-Racist Film Club

This month, we're showing the family-friendly holiday comedy, Christmas in the Clouds (2001).

Taking place at a Native-owned ski resort, this movie's wacky plot goes awry after a miscommunication between Ray Clouds on Fire and a woman named Tina Littlehawk. For years, Ray's father has been sending love notes to Tina (neither of them knowing their pen-pal’s age) until she finally decides to come under a fake name. Unfortunately, Tina’s arrival coincides with a travel critic who’s review will make make or break the family’s business. In a classic case of mistaken identity, Ray mistakes Tina for the critic and attempts to impress her with over the top hospitality… leaving the REAL critic with an interesting stay.

This is a PG comedy-romance. Watch a full trailer here.

We'll be showing the movie in room 222 at FUMCO this Sunday, 12/8 @12:30pm. There will be a light lunch provided before/during the screening. Our discussion will be held the next day on Monday, 12/9 @7pm over Zoom.

In this episode of the Anti-Racist Film Club Podcast, Lauren sits down with Pastor Kellen from Tumwater UMC to discuss Christmas in the Clouds, the vile history of Indigenous peoples on screen, subversive normalcy, fantasy romance novels, militant vegetarians, and goofy holiday hijinks.
