Update On Our Tree Damage

A large tree along Legion way fell on our church last October. The tree did significant damage to our building, particularly the bell tower, the roof and exterior face of the structure.  We contacted our insurance carrier to alert them to the damage, filed a claim and have had an agreement as to the cost of repairs.  We have received a check from them (minus our deductible).

Of note, our roof type is of membrane material.  This type of material cannot be patched; thus the whole section of membrane needs to be replaced even though the tree damaged the area by the bell tower. This area covers the Gathering Place, Narthex, and church offices.

There were additional smaller damages internal to the building as a result of water leaks, affecting the Gathering Place kitchen, bathroom and closet which will be covered in this claim. While this was not a major leak, any leak during a wet Washington winter is a big deal!

After seeking several bids, we decided on a local general contractor to complete this large project. Repairs have already begun, since we needed to fix the leaks allowing water into the Gathering Place kitchen area. During this process, you might see some construction areas in the hall between the Narthex and the Gathering Place kitchen or outside near the bell tower and the Great Hall. Most of the outside work will wait until the weather is more favorable, sometime in late Spring/early summer.
