Scarf-Bombing Update

As Scarf-Bombing begins to wind down for this year, I want to share some numbers and observations with you.

  • This season (since the end of October 2025) we have given away nearly 250 items. This is the most in our 2 ½ years of this ministry!
  • Our ministry has reached as far as Tenino, and we have received more donations than ever.
  • Hats have nearly overtaken scarves as the most popular item.
  • Dark, neutral colors are far more popular than pastels or neons.
  • Scarves that are at least 7” wide and 54” long are chosen first.
  • Children’s sizes are not chosen very often. Our clientele is most often houseless adults.

We will have one more scarf-bombing event during Affinity Nights on February 25. This will focus on cutting and tying fleece for scarves. We have a large amount of donated fleece (we don’t need any more!) so bring your shears, a yardstick if you have one, and be ready to cut!

Many thanks to all who have donated items and supplies. (Those large safety pins have been a blessing!) To those of you who knit or crochet, summer is a great time to use up your extra yarn and stockpile some scarves and hats for next year. We’ll be looking for them in October!

Thanks, Sue Sugarbaker
