Anti-Racist Film Club

Hello folks, our "film selection" for Anti-Racist Film Club this month is the television sitcom Black-ish (2014-22)!

Black-ish follows the lives of the Johnsons—an upperclass Black family living in suburban Los Angeles. Andre “Dre” Johnson is a marketing executive married to Dr. Rainbow “Bow” Johnson, an anesthesiologist. The show often comments on socio-economic and political issues that affect the family’s lives. This is a family-friendly sitcom that should be suitable for most ages.

We'll be showing two episodes from the show at Affinity Nights at First Olympia on 11/6 @7pm after dinner. Our discussion will be held on Monday, 11/11 @7pm over Zoom.

If you're interested in either of these events, please RSVP here:

In this episode of the Anti-Racist Film Club Podcast, Lauren sits down with Pastor Heather from First Olympia UMC to discuss Black-ish, sitcoms, bi-racial identities, Black History Month, Lewis Howard Latimer, and what it looks like to learn through laughter. Subscribe and listen here:
